Common Core drew fierce debate among teachers, politicians and parents. But lost in all the name calling was a real issue that parents faced with the new standards: they couldn't help their kids with homework. With kids learning entirely new math concepts, parents felt totally screwed.

This Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation PSA launched HomeworkHelpDesk.org, a site that aggregated teaching tools for parents, including videos, worksheets and a live chat to get one-on-one support from a Common Core teacher. By bringing productive solutions to the vicious debate, we validated the concerns of Common Core opponents and reached out with a way to help.
